Dear Colleague,

Our sense at Esri is that imagery and image processing tools are becoming increasingly important for GIS
users. This is impacting the academic community inboth the education and research missions with more
students needing to understand appropriate skills and knowledge associated with remote sensing. To support
this, we have been enhancing our technology and training methods as well.

At 10.1 we have extended and enhanced the image processing capabilities of the ArcGIS product suite. This
will help users better understand the world of remote sensing and how it can aid in geographic analysis and
more informed decision making. Satellite and airborne imagery, once considered a simple backdrop for
mapping, is now readily available from ArcGIS Online and a great source of valuable content for ArcGIS.

Esri has also been growing an exciting partnership in this field with a company known as Exelis Visual
Information Solutions (VIS) which provides a product known as ENVI. This suite ofsoftware allows ArcGIS
users to enhance their capabilities in the remote sensing arena. Exelis has worked for the past several years
to integrate their software technology in order to make many high end imagery and image analysis
functionality seamless for the ArcGIS user.

ENVI software is used for extracting information from imagery and adding this information dynamically to the
GIS. This capability providesArcGIS users with advanced image analysistools that are available directly in
ArcToolbox, eliminating the need to move back and forth between software and packages.

This integration allows you and your students to:

Access ENVI advanced image analysis tools directly from ArcGIS for Desktop and Server
Easily add image analysis results to ArcGIS

Exelis VIS is now offering Esri academic site licenseusers access to its ??Advanced Image and Data Analysis
Site License.? This package includes unlimited access toENVI, IDL, ENVI LiDAR, ENVI for ArcGIS Server and
additional modules for Faculty, staff and students at a greatly reduced price.

Please contact Brian Farr, Exelis VIS Academic Program Manager, by email at Brian.Farr@exelisvis.comor
by phone at 303-402-4670 to discuss your institution?s specific needs. We look forward to seeing your GIS
programs grow.

Sincerely,

Jack Dangermond, CEO, Esri

Jaye Lampe, President, Exelis Visual Information Solutions
